Dictionary
- Letter: A, a, B, b etc.
- Consonant: other than A, e, i, o and u.
- Vovel: A, e, i, o and u
1.1 Letters
=> Letter: A, a, B, c , D, d etc. are called letters.
=> There are 26 letters.
=> A set of letters from A to Z (or a to z) is called an alphabet.
1.2 Type of Letters
=> Letters are of 2 types:
Capital Letters
Small Letters
=> There are 26 capital letters.
=> There are 26 small letters.
1.3 Part of Letters
=> 2 parts of letters:
Consonants
=> Consonants: B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, , P, Q, R, S, T, V, W, X, Y, Z are called consonants.
=> There are 21 consonants.
Vowels
=> Vowels: A, E, I, O and U are called vowels.
=> There are 5 vowels.
Semi – Vowels
=> Semi- vowels: W and Y are called semi-vowels.
=> There are 2 semi-vowels.
=> When they are present in the beginning of a word, they are called consonants.
e.g:
Window–> Consonant
Yellow –> Consonant
= When they are not present in the beginning of a word , they are called vowels.
e.g:
Cow –> Vowel
Fly –> Vowel
